Rationale and Objectives

Rationale:

EFL teaching lessons should extend beyond language skills development to wider educational objectives. In particular to global citizenship education, which prepares students to function in a global society by developing an understanding of global issues, empathy for people of different origins, multi-cultural appreciation, and global skill sets. When teaching the multi-cultural appreciation aspect of EGL it is it is important to focus on how different cultures relate and interact with each other and raise the question whether the English language can constitute a common ground where different appropriations of the English language and of the English-speaking cultures can have a meaningful dialogue.

Objectives:

To use civic and global themes as a means of student engagement and participation in English language learning.

To make students more critical about their role in the world, and about how to build empathy and positive relationships with others.
